Styling an Outfit of Red and White Different Ways

Styling an Outfit of Red and White Different Ways

I know I’ve heard many women say they would never consider wearing an outfit of red and white because red is too bright. And I get that, but I’d like to give some ways to make the color combination work too.

Quote of the day: There is only one danger I find in life—you may take too many precautions.” Alfred Adler

While I also believe in the adage better safe than sorry, style and clothing is one of those aspects in life that it’s safe to try out risks. Even if you put together an outfit that doesn’t work out, it’s not a permanent thing.

As for trying out colors that you’re not used to wearing? Why not? My belief is that each and every one of you is fabulous. So why not stand out in a crowd? Sure, we all have days of doubts, but remember, you need to be your own best friend and give yourself a boost.

Adams County

Adams County Museum

First let me just talk about our day of adventure at the Adams County Museum. If you still believe that social media is worthless, here’s where I might disagree.

Because I “met” Michael on Twitter when he would message me about how we looked nice in our blog posts. Granted, he could have been one of those crazy, stalker guys. But his Twitter feed was full of Joel Osteen and the Brighton Fire Rescue. And he suggested we come visit his “hood.” Unfortunately his wife had to work this day, but we enjoyed meeting him and seeing this area.

I feel like these historical parks are being resurrected many places now. Where they collect the houses, schools and stores from back in the day. And you can tour and see them in their original form.

This day of red and white had me working to style it differently for each of us. My mom loved staying with her matchy matchy ways. Nancy always loves wearing black. And then I added in another color and a neutral.

Wearing an Outfit with a Red and White Top

While looking back at our blog photos, I found a couple of different ways to approach the idea of wearing red. One way would be with a red and white top. The thing is, there can be other colors involved in case you think the red can be too bright.

In the first photo, Nancy is cheating by wearing a dress with a skirt over it. This is such an interesting way to make your shift dress into a top. And there’s a lot more white in the piece so the red isn’t overpowering.

Charlotte in the second photo is wearing a shirt that has red and white in it, but also other colors.

And my top in the third photo is red and white, but because it’s a small gingham print, it might look more subdued from far away.

Red and White Outfits

Then instead of a top with both red and white in it, you could incorporate these colors another way.

In this first photo, I tried to add in some turquoise elements to the red and white outfit. Now the red is still front and center, but your eye also travels to the bits of turquoise.

For Charlotte’s next outfit, her red pants take a back seat to the white tunic she’s wearing.

And then for Nancy, her red piece is overshadowed by the black cardigan. Sure, the red still adds some sass to the overall look, but it’s not as prominent.

Red Accessories

The last idea I had was about incorporating red accessories instead of wearing a clothing item.

The first shot of Nancy showcases a red necklace and shoes for a punch of color.

In the second photo, I am sporting a red belt that adds great pop to the outfit.

And then Charlotte is wearing a red scarf which could be another great way to experiment with red.

There you have it. Red and white in all different kinds of forms and styles. Will you embrace it now or have you already?
