Styling Pink and Pearls for the Magnificent 8 with an Insider Look at Arcosanti
Pink and pearls was not a planned theme. Pearls, sure!! The magnificent 8 (which is a group of bloggers with 8 women representing “about” 8 different decades of life) agreed to style pearls for this collaboration.
Now, you have to laugh when the three of us all show up in not only the pearls but also pink. Talk about birds of a feather.
Quote of the day: “When you’re brought into this life, you’re given certain gifts, and you have to use them.” Jane Goodall
While finding our gifts is not always easy, I have to admit that I love finding ways to wear what we already have and making it look stylish. Most of us have pearls that we usually only wear to weddings and dressy events. So here we are working on ways to wear them for casual setting.
Make sure to keep reading to hear about Arcosanti which was the Arizona place we explored this day.

Lesley’s Pink and Pearls

In Lesley’s words: “What could be more classic and feminine than pearls with gold accents layered on a creamy chiffon blouse, a pink jacket and Chanel style pumps? WAIT….that’s a faux leather jacket and jeans!!
What is wrong with this picture?? Absolutely nothing!” I love how Lesley is embracing the idea of yin/yang or a I like to say dichotomy in an outfit.
Leather and pearls couldn’t be more opposite, and jeans and pearls could be considered contradictory. Yet that’s the modern way to dress now.
Not only is it contemporary, it’s also a great way to get more use out of the things you tend to “save” for a special occasion.
You can see how Lesley wore her black leather jacket in a ladylike way here. It’s another example of how opposites can be styled so well.

Notice how Lesley layered her pearl necklaces. Even if you have only 1 “real” pearl necklace, you could combine it with other necklaces this way.

Pink and Pearls for Charlotte

For my mom’s example of pink and pearls, she added in her necklace enhancer. These enhancers are designed to clip onto any bead necklace. Think of it as a pendant that works over bumpy terrain!!

I asked my mom to wear her pearl necklace with a more casual top. This isn’t a dressy outfit and we weren’t going to a wedding, so it’s quite an unusual combination at least for Charlotte.
She’s also wearing jeans, but colorful jeans!! I always like the colored jeans whether they are “in style” or not. Heck, even as a fashion blogger, I have trouble keeping track of which ones are in style.
Insider tip: Remember, the most important thing about your jeans are the fit. My post on Saggy Jeans has been very popular. Most of us tend to buy them a tad too big.

Jodie’s Pink and Pearls

Lesley and I both had the idea for me to wear pearls as a belt. In fact, this strand is one of hers. I was going to wear it with the dress alone, however, then I decided to add in the blouse as a jacket too.
I used my handy, dandy clear elastic ties to keep the pearls gathered as a tie. Since it wasn’t easy to remove the elastic from the beads of the necklace, I just cut the elastic off. Most pack of elastics have tons in them, and they do wear out over time.
Insider tip: If your blouse tends to gap, then wear it as a jacket. Using any kind of belt makes it more fitted.

The nice thing about wearing a looser belt like this is it was easy enough to remove my top/jacket without taking off the belt! Now putting it back on could be a different story, LOL!!
Insider tip: The longer pearl necklaces like these can be found secondhand!! Then you don’t have to worry about twisting them up and damaging them.

Arcosanti
Arcosanti was built as an experiment about living frugally and with a limited environmental footprint. It’s a combination of interesting architecture along with it’s respect to ecology. In fact, we learned the founder, Paolo Soleri, studied under Frank Lloyd Wright.
Our exploration of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin’s post can be viewed here including many photos if you’re interested.

The idea of Arcosanti is almost communal. Not in your living quarter but in having multi use structures available to all that are living there. People have been living on this site for 30 years, even now.
Our tour guide was a young woman in her 20’s who started off living in a 64 sq. foot room as an intern. Over these three years, she’s moved up to living in a 300 sq. foot place and is working on the premises in the public relations department.

The site does make money from it’s tours and also from selling the windchimes as pictured below on the left. There are workshops that artists can use on site to make their own products to sell also. You can see some of these on display in the cafe at the very bottom. Yes, I purchased a necklace as a souvenir…shocking, I know.
There is also a cafe on site that serves very healthy meals for tourists and residents.

Should you visit Arcosanti? I would say definitely!! It may not be a place you want to set up residence, but it has quite an interesting history.
